Rural Lookout is an app New Zealand Police are trialling to make reporting suspicious incidents quick and easy. This app is being trialled across rural communities in the Waimakariri and Hurunui Districts, North Canterbury, New Zealand. If you are outside the trial area you will not be able to submit a report. Please call 105 or go online to 105.police.govt.nz instead.

This app is not monitored 24/7 and does not replace 111 in an emergency.

What is it used for? All crime and suspicious activity you may not have considered important enough to report previously, no matter how minor, should be reported.

Use Rural Lookout to report things like:
* Evidence of illegal hunting
* Evidence of trespassers on your land
* Drone hovering over your buildings
* Deliberate damage to your property
* Suspicious vehicle or person in the area

What happens when I send a report?
* You will be sent an email with your report details and a reference number
* Police will review your report and get in touch if they need more details
* The reports will provide an accurate picture of crime and suspicious behaviour in rural North Canterbury.  Police will see your report on a rural crime dashboard and can analyse the information for patterns and trends to determine the best prevention response
* Your information will be treated confidentially and kept secure. Your neighbours and community will not know you have used Rural Lookout unless you choose to tell them

No reception? No worries!

Once the Rural Lookout app is downloaded onto your phone using Wi-Fi or cell phone coverage, you can use Rural Lookout outside cell phone coverage areas.
